Ruth Anne Thomas

Ruth Anne (Woodburn) Thomas, 78, of Lehigh Ave. Vestal, NY passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, NY following a period of declining health. Ruth Anne was born on February 27, 1935 at home in Rome, Pa the daughter of the late Edward Allen and Lillian (Chaffee) Woodburn. She lived at this residence until her adult years. Ruth Anne was a graduate of Rome High School Class of 1953 and following graduation she attended Mansfield State Teachers College and graduated in 1957 from there. She met and married Jack Thomas, the love of her life, on July 29, 1956. In 1959, the two with their son Mark moved to Binghamton, NY where she taught in the city schools. In 1965 they moved to Vestal where they reside at the present time. For many years, Ruth Anne was a dedicated member of the Sweet Adeline's, she kept a busy schedule with practices, shows and competitions. Ruth Anne loved her family, dedicating her life to them. She enjoyed visiting with people and always carried a smile wherever she traveled. Ruth Anne is survived by her husband of nearly 57 years, Jack; her children: Mark and his wife Julee Thomas; Marcia and her husband Mark Sanford all of Vestal; Craig and his wife Dianne Thomas of Silver Springs, MD; a sister Margaret Chapman of Rome, Pa; her grandchildren: Shana Thomas, Katie Thomas, Brian Thomas, Brandon Sanford, Josh Thomas, and Megan Sanford; niece Pam Zukowski; nephew Cam Chapman and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents Edward and Lillian Woodburn and a special brother-in-law David Chapman. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Monday, July 1st from 11-1 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Funeral services and a celebration of Ruth Anne's life will be held on Monday at 3 pm at the Rome Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Karen Ballard, officiating. Interment will follow in the Rome Cemetery.
