Ruth A. Wheaton, a life long resident of Warren Center, Pa, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 9, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on August 18, 1933, Ruth's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the love of family.
Ruth's legacy is carried on by her devoted children: Craig and Frances Wheaton, Terry Patterson, Dixie Wheaton, Kevin and Mary Wheaton, Curtis and Iara Wheaton, Tammy and Rick Arnold, Corliss and Molly Wheaton, and Jamie Bozon. She was a cherished grandmother to eighteen grandchildren and a great-grandmother to forty-one great-grandchildren all of whom she adored. Her sister Doris Carmack, sisters-in-law Marylea Wheaton, Betty Wheaton, and Kathleen "Judy" Dickenson, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and their families, also survive her. Ruth was predeceased by her loving parents George and Bessie (McCarty) Jones, her beloved husband Walter 'Bud' Wheaton, her brother and sister-in-law Russell and Carol Jones, brothers-in-law Robert Carmack, Douglas Wheaton, Fred Wheaton, and her dear granddaughters Carrie and Rebecca Wheaton, as well as a great-granddaughter Bailey VanDusen.
Ruth's story began in Warren Center and saw her graduate alongside her high school sweetheart and best friend, Walter L. Wheaton, from Vestal High School, class of 1951. The two were united in marriage on October 30, 1954, and shared a beautiful journey of 50 years until his passing on February 22, 2005. Ruth furthered her education at the Robert Packer School of Nursing and dedicated her professional life to serving others, working at Ideal Hospital and the Asa Park Manor Nursing Home before opening her heart and home to care for the elderly.
A talented piano player, Ruth often graced area churches with her music. Her hands, ever busy, found joy in knitting and the simple pleasure of being with her family. Ruth's adventurous spirit took her on travels far and wide, from walking the ancient paths of Israel for three weeks to marveling at the natural wonders of Alaska on a memorable cruise.
As we bid farewell to our loving mom, we celebrate her life rich in love and service. Her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her to live with kindness, embrace faith, and cherish family above all else. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Friday, February 13th from 2 – 4 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A funeral service will follow at 4pm with the Nurses Honor Guard honoring Ruth at the start of the service. Ruth will be laid to rest in the spring in the Warren Center Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared by visiting her guestbook at www.sutfinfuneralchapel.com Those who wish may kindly consider a memorial contribution to the Warren Center Cemetery, c/o Renee Herb, 780 Sleeper Hill Rd., Little Meadows, PA 18830 in loving memory of Ruth A.
