"Sandy"
Sandra (Daugherty) Erickson, 89, formerly of Aiken, SC passed away on Thursday morning, April 11, 2024 at the Towanda Personal Care Home, where she had resided for the last several years. Sandy was born on September 4, 1934 in Endicott, NY, the second of eight children born to G. Edward and Clarice (Cook) Daugherty. Following graduation
from High School in Towanda, Pennsylvania, she attended business school in Wilmington, Delaware, where she met her future husband. She was married to William D. "Bill" Erickson on February 19, 1955. Bill's extensive military career took them to many Air Force Bases throughout the United States, the Philippines, England and Germany. Upon his retirement from the Air Force in 1979, they moved to Detroit, Mi and established AC Express, a successful air/freight/trucking business, with Sandy and Bill working side by side every day. In 1990, they again retired, moving to Naples, Fl, which was their home for 15 years. In 2005, Aiken, SC became their home, and their love of golf and bridge continued in their new surroundings. Sandy was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Aiken, SC where she served as a Deacon, and supported many of the church activities and Sunday worship.
She is survived by her children: W. David Erickson of Cleveland, Ohio, Dale E. Erickson of Novi, Michigan. Her seven grandchildren; Trey, Jill, Jay (Rachael), Paige, Katie, Taylor and Adrian. Her siblings; Janet VanDerMark, Mary Ellen McPherson, Bruce (Peggy) Daugherty, Cindi (Dick) Roper-Penney, Jack (Patti) Daugherty. Many nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Sandy was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Colonel William D. "Bill" Erickson (USAF retired), her daughter Diane K. Erickson; a daughter-in-law: Sally Erickson; and her sisters Ann and Angela.
A gathering for family and friends will be held on Sunday, May 19th at 10 am at the Towanda Personal Care Home, 603 William Street, Towanda, PA. Sandy will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Orwell Valley Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
