Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, so loved so missed so very dear…Sarah Jane Welfel, 73, of Windham Twp., (Rome, Pa) passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at her home. Sarah, was born on July 18, 1936 in New Jersey, a daughter of the late John S. and Olive Vera (Muchall) Brewer. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend to many. The love she shared with all of us will live on forever in our hearts. Sarah enjoyed hunting, bowling, had a great love for nature and catching wild animals. At one time, Sarah had trained "Babe" the Woodchuck and even befriended a skunk. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Sarah is survived by her husband of 54 years William T. Welfel; her children: Tommy (Laurie) Hawthorne of Owego, NY; Jeannie (Albert) Fredenburg of Rome, Pa; Cindy (Bill) Raymond of Candor, NY; Debbie (Larry) Wanzo of Nichols, NY; Sherri (Jim Coney) Welfel of Owego, NY; her special grandchildren: Traci, Travys (Holly), Bonny, Albert Jr., Mary, Sarah, Jennifer, James, Becky (Steve), Tabetha, Jacksin, Emma and Aubrii; her special great grandchildren: Carma, Collin, Damion, William, Zander, Justice, Jazmene, Marissa, Fantachia; Savanna, Bradlee, and Brayden; her siblings: Paul (Betsy) Brewer; Carl (Norma) Brewer; Earl (Denise) Brewer; James (Sadie) Brewer; Shirley Welfel; Dottie (Fran) Casselbury; Gloria (Dan) Rose and Cora Arnold; several nieces, nephews and their families, along with her special canine companions Samauri and Kasper. Sarah was predeceased by her parents John S. and Olive V. Brewer; an infant son Patrick Lee Welfel a brother John "Jack" Brewer and a great grandson Steven Michael Tuttle, II. Funeral services and a celebration of Sarah's life will be held on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols with Pastor Brian R. Cetton, officiating. Interment will follow in the Nichols Cemetery. A period of visitation and time for sharing memories will be held on Sunday, August 30th from 3 to 5 pm at the funeral chapel.
