Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us everyday. Unseen, unheard, but always near, so loved, so missed, so very dear… Our hearts were broken on Monday, April 5th with the sudden and unexpected passing of our loving Tara J. Cofone, 59, of Nichols. Tara left her fingerprint on our hearts and her kindness will always be remembered.
Tara was born on May 18, 1961 in North Tarrytown, New York a daughter of Vernabelle C. (Hunter) and the late Ronald M. Welsch. She was a 1979 graduate of Patchogue Medford High School. Tara continued her love of music and studied music therapy at Shenandoah University where she played the clarinet. On October 21, 1989 a crisp fall day, Tara was united in marriage with Daniel A. Cofone, Jr. Memories were made and their lives made all the brighter when they welcomed their daughter Deanna on July 14, 1999. Tara found great comfort in listening to the sound of the ocean, watching the waves, admiring the sunrises and sunsets. She treasured visits to Long Island and visiting family in Vermont. Tara opened her heart and loved her Nichols-Tioga community, where she participated in many community activities. For over 17 years, Tara was instrumental in guiding Deanna and other young girls in Girl Scouts sharing with them the strong belief in volunteering and guiding them to receive the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. In 2020, Tara was awarded the Girl Scouts Volunteer of Excellence Award. She truly was a bright star and positive role model to so many. In addition, Tara was also a member of the Waverly Order of Eastern Star Chapter #9 and served as Past Matron and was currently serving as the secretary; she was also a member of the Tioga Center United Methodist Church. Tara was a long-time employee of Southern Tier Economic Growth, Inc. and also served at the Chemung County IDA.
Tara will be greatly missed by her husband of 31 years, Daniel; her daughter Deanna; her mother Vernabelle Welsch; siblings: Susan (Joseph) Silhan, Kathy (Joseph) Yaskulski, Kim (Rick) Suddaby; her mother-in-law: Myrtha Cofone; brother-in-law: Joseph (Sheri) Cofone; close family friends: Jeffrey and Alison Adelman; her nieces and nephews: Caryn, Caty, Ryan, Alexa, Mikaela, Lindsey, Madelyn, Michael, Cayla, Shula and many, many dear friends. Tara was welcomed into heaven by her Dad Ronald M. Welsch and her father-in-law Daniel A. Cofone, Sr.
