When someone you love becomes a memory….the memory becomes a treasure. Our loving husband, dad, son, brother and uncle Terence L. "Terry" Miller, 51, of Smithboro, New York passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday morning, February 9, 2011 following a courageous battle with cancer. He kept fighting his cancer until the very end~he never gave up and never admitted defeat. Terry is survived by his wife of 25 years, Melanie (Miller) Miller, his children Nathan, age 24 and a student at Binghamton University; Stefanie, age 22 and a student at Wells College; and Daniel, age 20 and a student at Binghamton University. In addition, Terry is also survived by his father Garrett E. Miller of Richmond, Va; siblings Garrett (Pam) Miller III of Glen Allen, Va; Melissa Brown of Lorton, VA; Dee (Randy) Bennett of Nichols; several aunts, uncles, his nieces and nephews: Gina, Logan, Tory, Ashley, Kristin, Alexis, Lukas and a great niece Lillian. He was predeceased by his mother Lillian (Raynor) Miller Gowan and step father James A. Gowan. Terry was born on February 16, 1959 in Bellafonte, Pa a son of Garrett E. and the late Lillian (Raynor) Miller. He was a graduate of Tioga Central High School Class of 1977 and received his associate's degree in Electrical Engineering from Hudson Valley Community College. Terry was employed by Lockheed Martin in Owego for 30 years; where he was instrumental in the Space Shuttle Program and received the Silver Snoopy Award for his dedication. Terry treasured the time spent with his family, always looked forward to attending Stefanie's college field hockey and lacrosse games and camping at Fair Haven. An avid outdoors man, Terry also enjoyed target shooting and bow hunting. He had a mellow personality and a great passion for the Tea Party movement. If love could have saved him, he would have lived forever. Funeral services and a celebration of Terry's life will be held on Saturday, February 12th at 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols, with Pastor Dan Martin of the Nichols United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be held in the spring in the Nichols Cemetery. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Friday evening, February 11th from 6 to 9 pm at the funeral chapel.
