When someone you love becomes a memory….the memory becomes a treasure….Thelma B. Hill, 93, of Church Street, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2007 following a period of declining health. Thelma was born on June 6, 1914 in Lisle, NY a daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Etta (Smith) Gates. She was a graduate of Greene High School class of 1933. On February 17, 1935 in Smithboro she married the love of her life Ellsworth G. "Doc" Hill. He predeceased her on May 28, 1994. Thelma was a member of the Smithboro United Methodist Church where she served on the church board and was President of the Women's Society. In addition she also was a board member of the Smithboro Cemetery. Thelma enjoyed gardening, crocheting and treasured the time spent with her family. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: George E. and Franceen E. Hill of Apalachin, NY; Gerald H. Hill and Monica Delta of Washington, DC; son-in-law George Kinney of Barton, NY; her sister: Madelyn Parks of Oxford, NY; her special grandchildren: Douglas Kinney, Mary Lou Mongan, Patrick Kinney, Susan Jalosky, Lynette Hill, Daniel Hill, Heather Campbell, Briana Werner, Selena Hill; great grandchildren: Thomas Kinney, Nicholas Kinney, Sarah Kinney, Austin Campbell, Eliza Campbell, Jonathan Jalosky, Santiago Hill and our newest Ana Lucia Hill. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Thelma was predeceased by daughter Julie Kinney, grandson Greg Kinney, siblings: Ione Lauter, Hilda Hurlbut, Gerald Gates, Robert Gates, Helen Marshman, Velma Taylor. A time of remembering the special gift Thelma was to all of us will be held on Saturday, September 8th at 11 am at the Smithboro United Methodist Church with Pastor Alan S. Bill, officiating. Interment and prayers of committal will follow in the Smithboro Cemetery. A period of visitation and sharing memories will be held on Friday evening, September 7th from 7 to 9 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A period of visitation will also be held on Saturday from 10 am until the time of the service at the church.
