Thomas A. Atchison

When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure ~ Thomas A. Atchison, 83, of Barton, New York went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday evening, March 28, 2016. Tom was born on March 4, 1933 in Waverly, NY a son of the late Thomas and Clara (Park) Atchison. On October 5, 1957 he married Irene Holmes and together they owned and operated a dairy farm in Barton for many years. He enjoyed fishing, spending time relaxing on his hammock, and traveling to Lancaster in their motor home. Tom was a devoted fifty year member of the First Baptist Church of Waverly where he served on the Deacon and Trustee Boards. In addition he also sang many solos, quartets and duets in the choir and was a member of the All Valley Chorus for many years. Tom will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Irene; his children: Timothy and Veronica Atchison of Lockwood, NY; Theresa "Terri" Hartmann of Baldwinsville, NY; Todd and Blythe Atchison of Waverly, NY; his brother and sister-in-law: Charles and Sharon Atchison of Zephyrhills, Florida; sisters and brothers-in-law: Dorothy and William Jackson of Murfreesboro, Tenn; Helen and William Frank of Dade City, Florida; his special grandchildren: Kristopher, Sarah, Ariel, Nathan, Cody, Kristi, Mitchell (Tianna) and Rebecca; nine great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. He was welcomed into heaven and greeted by his parents Thomas and Clara Atchison; a granddaughter Heidi Hartmann and a sister Carolyn Schmitt. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation and time of sharing on Saturday, April 2nd from 2pm to 4 pm at the First Baptist Church, 23 Tioga Street, Waverly. A memorial service and celebration of his life will follow at 4 pm with his Pastor Steve Dygert, officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Barton Cemetery.
