Verna C. Russell

Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean, we will miss you until we meet again….Our hearts were saddened on Tuesday evening, April 7, 2009 as our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend Verna Cragle Russell, 87, of Orwell Hill, Pa went to her heavenly home. Verna was born on September 13, 1921 in Orwell Township one of ten children of Robert and Liva (Kocher) Cragle. She attended school in Orwell and graduated in 1940. On May 19, 1940, she married John Malcom Russell and together they shared nearly 69 years of marriage. Verna was devoted to her family, was an avid hunter and always shared with friends and neighbors the bounty from her garden. Verna is survived by her husband John "Mac" Russell; her daughter and son-in-law: Loretta Ann and Donald Ammerman of Orange Hill; her daughter: Linda Lee Russell of Orwell; her sons and daughters-in-law: John Blaine "JB" and Judy Russell of Orwell; Dewey Mack and Carolyn Russell of Rome Township; a brother Robert and his wife Iola Cragle of Rome; sister Grace and her husband Bob Kunkle of Brooksville, FL; her grandchildren: Lisa (Chip) Tobbe, Kenneth Ammerman, Judy Ammerman, Teah Allen, Maria Fuller, Brandy Russell, Cory (Stacey) Russell, Aaron Russell and Sabrina Russell; step grandchildren: Shelley (Rodney) Ford, Brenda (Matthew) Walters, Trevor Briggs and Wendy (Robert) Base; seven great grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter, one step great great granddaughter; many nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Verna was predeceased by her parents and seven brothers and sisters: Lena Bolton, Anna Groover, Alice Doughty, Arena Snedeker, Ralph, Ross and Anthony Cragle. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service and celebration of a life well lived for Verna on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 2 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols with Rev. Richard Vieldhouse officiating. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Saturday from 1 pm until the time of the service.
