When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure ~ Virginia Anne Baldwin, 78, of Nichols passed away peacefully on Monday evening, January 14th 2019. Virginia was born on January 19, 1940 at home in Nichols, she was one of five children to Archie and Mary (Tripp) Babcock. She was always working hard, beginning with working on the family farm. For many years, Virginia worked at Guthrie Clinic and Cornell Cooperative Extension where she was a Nutrition Educator. On May 1, 1971 in Apalachin she married James B. Baldwin, Jr. and together they shared 34 years of marriage until his passing on January 19, 2005. Virginia was a loving wife, a devoted mother and caring grandmother, her greatest pleasure was to give whatever she had to others. Home and family were everything to her. She lived life with grace, dignity, humor and courage. She loved nature, bird watching and gardening, and working in her flower beds. Virginia was a talented baker and enjoyed making cakes for her family's special occasions and also made and sold cakes as a money making hobby. She was a "really good cooker"! Virginia will be greatly missed by her children: Wanda Harding and Ignatius Allen of Smithboro; Lisa and Michael Horton of Barton; Tina and Ray Frisbee of Little Meadows; Jeffrey and Susan Harding of Nichols; Mark Baldwin of Barton; her step children: Gail Baldwin Miller, Teresa Baldwin Welles, Maria Baldwin. Her siblings: Charles Babcock of Nichols; Harry E. Babcock, Sr. of Owego; Lillian Cheely of Nichols; Her grandchildren; Dana, Lauren, Kate, Chad, Stephanie, Kayla, Kyle, Danielle, Eric, Sierra, Mitchell, Ben, Olivia, Jacob and Tanisha. Step grandchildren; Cathy, James, Mindy, Michael, Avery and Cody. 13 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Virginia was predeceased by her parents Archie and Mary Babcock; her husband James B. Baldwin, Jr.; a brother Archie Babcock; her sisters-in-law: Mina Babcock, Patricia Babcock, Margo Babcock; and a brother-in-law: Walter Cheely. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Saturday, May 18th from 10 to 12 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A funeral service and celebration of Virginia's life will follow at 12 pm. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Lounsberry.
