Walter S. Stickel, 88, of Cooper Street, Waverly, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2011 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pa following a period of declining health. Walt was born on December 4, 1923 in Pennsylvania son of the late Harry and Mamie (Haas) Stickel. He was a graduate of Sayre High School. Following graduation he enlisted into the US Army and proudly served his county in England and France. On June 30, 1951 in Sayre, Pa he married Yolanda Rossi together they shared 57 years of marriage until her passing on June 22, 2008. Walt and Yo were members of St. John Lutheran Church, Sayre, Pa; Sons of Italy in Sayre where he served as Vice President, Trustee, Treasure and on the Club Board. He was a former employee of Ingersoll Rand, Stroehmann's Bakery, Remington Rand and for twenty-three years owned and operated the Wal-Mar Beauty Shop in Waverly. In addition he was employed at Morten Cleaners until his retirement. Walt is survived by his daughter Marsha Stickel; nieces and nephews: Louise & Richard Allis; Betty Jean Bachman; Linda Charton; Frances Thomas; Kenneth Winters, Jr.; Gale & Beth Winters all of Owego; Wayne & Aleta Winters of Selinsgrove, Pa; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Wilhemina and Donald House; John and Evelyn Rossi; Joseph and Pamela Rossi; Charles and Shirley Rossi; Anthony and Malinda Rossi; numerous nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Walter was predeceased by his parents, his wife Yolanda; sister Frances Stickel Winters; brothers Harry Stickel; Edward Pickard; nephew Jerry Pickard; niece Paulette Winters Boyle; Aunts Emma Hass Smith; Mary O'Brien Haas. Funeral services and a celebration of Walter's life will be held on Thursday, December 29th at 2 pm at St. John Lutheran Church, 207 S. Hopkins St., Sayre, Pa. Interment will follow in the Rossi Family Cemetery. A period of visitation and sharing memories will be held on Thursday, from 1 pm until the time of the service at the church.
