William W. Wilkinson

of Waverly, NY

William W. Wilkinson, affectionately known as “Wilkie” or “Bill”, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2023, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. Wilkie was born on August 17, 1948, in Waverly, NY, a son of the late Rodney and Velma (Ace) Wilkinson. Bill was a kind, adventurous, and friendly soul who touched the lives of many during his 74 years.

Bill was a proud graduate of the Waverly High School class of 1965, where he played baseball and formed lifelong friendships. Following high school, he enlisted into the US Air Force and proudly served his country from 1965 – 1969. For many years, he assisted Dick Perry in the operation of his Tree Service business, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment to his community. Growing up in the "Cannon Hole" area, Bill developed a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, often embarking on summer vacations to fish in Ontario, Canada. His adventurous spirit led him to explore new places and make lasting memories with his loved ones. In addition to his passion for the outdoors, Bill was an avid coin collector. This hobby allowed him to connect with others who shared his interest, and he took great pride in his ever-growing collection.

Bill is survived by his brothers, Tom (Mary) Wilkinson and Gerald (Chelsa) Wilkinson; brother-in-law Rick Lewis, and longtime friend Doug VanDeMark. Bill also leaves behind several nephews, including Ian, Tucker, and Kevin, who will cherish the memories and lessons learned from their kind and adventurous uncle.

He was predeceased by his parents, Rodney and Velma (Ace) Wilkinson, and sister Marsha Wilkinson-Lewis. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "It is not the length of life, but the depth." Bill's life was one of depth, filled with love, adventure, and friendship. His genuine kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In celebration of Bill's life and his love for the outdoors, the family encourages friends and loved ones to spend time in nature, reflecting on the beauty and adventure that life has to offer. May we all strive to live a life as full and meaningful as the one William W. Wilkinson so gracefully led.
