William "Archie" Charles Archibald

William Charles Archibald, 82, of Hoffman Rd., Barton, NY passed away on Tuesday evening, January 1, 2013 at the Robert Packer Hospital following a period of declining health. Affectionately known as "Archie" and "The Mayor", he was born on October 14, 1930 in Jeffersonville, NY a son of the late William John and Nancy Archibald. As a young adult, Archie worked on a farm and delivered ice to area businesses. He enjoyed riding around seeing the sights on the back roads and spending time in the woods. He also enjoyed playing pool, bowling and playing cards. Many will remember him for his hard work and as a dedicated carpenter. Archie was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Owego and guest member at the Nichols American Legion. Archie is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: William Charles Archibald, Jr. of Conklin, Kenneth Wayne Archibald of Albany; Rodney Lane Archibald of Ocala, Fla; Lonnie Alan and Diana Archibald of Barton, Donald Lynn Archibald of Waverly; his daughters and son-in-law: Cheryl Ann and Thomas Ferris of Spencer, Sally Lou Archibald of Owego, Deborah Leah Archibald of Endicott, Ellen May Archibald of Barton; the devoted mother of his children, Eleanor Archibald; his sister and brother-in-law: Alice and Bill Bennett of MA; brother-in-law: George Yates of NJ; his long time companion Mitzie Cornwell of Owego; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great great grandson, nieces, nephews, and many friends also survive. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister Margaret Bartholomew, Marion Yates and second wife Selva Vargason Archibald. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Monday, January 7th from 10 to 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will follow at 11 am with Pastor Alan Bill, officiating.
