Bill's early life in Waverly was filled with the laughter and love of a close-knit family. He was the cherished son of the late Geraldine and William Rought, Sr. and grew up alongside his siblings, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. He was predeceased by his brother Martin and sister Cindy Hitchcock, but is survived by his brother Nels Rought.

Wild Bill is also survived by his sons, William Rought III and Clifford Rought, and his grandchildren, Ward, Cameron, Josh, Connor, and Makayla Rought. A proud graduate of the Tioga Central Class of 1973, Bill's commitment to his country was evident when he enlisted in the US Army, serving from 1976 to 1977.

Bill retired from Interstate Auto in Tioga Center where he assisted many who would visit for parts and just to say hello. Many will recall the unique sight of Bill driving his vintage funeral hearse around town, a vehicle that reflected his individuality and sense of humor.

Wild Bill's interests were as varied as they were engaging. An avid fisherman, he found solace and excitement on the water, reveling in the tranquility of nature and the thrill of the catch. His artistic talents shone through in his drawings, capturing the beauty of the world around him with pencil and paper. Moreover, Bill was a master woodworker. His membership in the Catatonk Valley Wood Carvers allowed him to share his passion and skill with others, creating intricate pieces that were not only beautiful but also a testament to his meticulous craftsmanship.
